What inspired me to share steaming with women?

Introducing 'The She Steams Chronicles'

Dear lovely woman,

Yesterday I gave a talk about postpartum steaming to a mothers group in Rockingham. Elena from Health Shack invited me to come and share this wonderful practice. It had been a long time since I had given a talk on steaming and I loved it!

It brought back memories of when I was nursing and seeing a lot of surgeries performed on women's sacred anatomy. I was only in my early twenties but I had such a deep sense that there was another way. I would question the Drs and ask them why they would operate so quickly. I often felt frustrated and sometimes angry that surgery became a first port of call. I had no one to talk to about this and so my journal became an expression point so I did not hold all this in.

I respect medicine it saved my life when I was three. Prevention has always been really important to me. Perhaps because by the age of 18 I had already had 3 operations. 2 of them I now know were preventable.

Prevention of chronic problems women experience later in life is something that drew me to Tami Kent s work, The Wild Feminine. A kindred sister who whilst working as a physiotherapist in genitourinary saw so much chronic dysfunction in older women's pelvic bowls. She asked 'why are we leaving this so late?' and this question inspired her to create Holistic Pelvic Care (TM) so women could have a different experience with their bodies and sacred anatomy later in life.

Steaming / smoking is also a preventative practice and in the future it shall be a household healing art passed down from mother to daughter, sister to sister. I have a lot of hope for the future of women's reproductive health. Less hysterectomies, less prolapses that need to be surgically tacked into place, less STDs, less recurrent infections, less menopause imbalances, less infertility issues, less cancer, less shame and embarrassment, deeper intimacy, more connection to ones root, the Wild Mother/ Feminine and ones sacred anatomy.

I have created 'The She Steams Chronicles', blog entries from women sharing their Steamy Stories. You are welcome to share these monthly posts with friends and family. I hope they inspire and empower you.

If you would like to share your story on steaming please get in touch.
