Postpartum 'She Steams' Interview
I wanted to share yoni steaming from someone else's experience. So I decided to interview women eager to share their steam stories. This birthed The 'She Steams' Chronicles. I am so grateful for these women who have responded generously with enthusiasm. Thank you so much.
In this interview Amy, a mother of 2 and Registered Nurse shares her experience of Postpartum steaming,
(For privacy reasons I have changed clients names)
What attracted you to steaming / why did you start steaming?
I guess I really learnt about it from you in my first womb healing sessions. The attraction was definitely the healing benefits and also the actual ceremony of taking the time to mix the herbs in water, bring to the boil and then sit and have a little quiet time to myself. I love a sauna and so I thought of it like a little spa time for my yoni.
What was your first steaming experience like?
I remember it just felt lovely and soothing to have the hot (but not too hot) steam circulating my yoni and entering into my vagina. It was warming and slightly invigorating.
What has steaming given you and or helped you with?
It has definitely helped with healing in the postpartum. I didn't use it in the postpartum with my first bub, but this second time around, I have noticed a considerable difference in healing time. It has definitely improved blood circulation to promote healing and my blood loss was greatly reduced, as I only had lochia for a few weeks. I feel it has even helped with my pelvic floor. My yoni is definitely thanking me for it. I steamed every day for 30 days and now once a month for 9 months.
Tell us a little about your steam setup? eg. what you use as a steam sauna, time of day you like to steam anything about setting up your space.
I actually just used a camping toilet frame and put a cork mat underneath to put the hot pot on top of and then covered the entire outside with a towel, so that the steam could not escape. In the postpartum for the first month, I just steamed when I had a moment to myself, but I have recently found that I like to do it at night. When mixing the herbs with water, I like to take a moment to feel the herbs, study them and thank them for their healing properties. Then I set the intention if it is for a healing or a cleansing steam. I like to sit and just relax and meditate while the steaming is taking place.
