Healing Vaginal Imbalances through Steaming
It is such a treat to have a client so enthusiastic about sharing her experience with me and others. Catherine is one of those women. In this interview she shares her experience of steaming over 3 months. She is a Mother, works in finance and is a healing facilitator.
Why did you start steaming?
I started steaming because I have had imbalances with my vagina for years. The symptoms were thrush, UTI, dryness during sex and also digestive pains. I decided to engage Simone for 3 sessions of womb healing, which is when she talked about the possibility of undertaking She Steaming. It simply felt right to my body when she suggested it, just a feminine, gentle and earthly self-care practice worth experiencing.
What was your first steaming experience like?
My first steam was early one Sunday morning. I had prepared the herbs in water the night before and left the pot with the lid to soak up the energies of the moon, stars and night. I heated up the water in the morning, undressed completely as it was summer, and started standing over the steam in front of my altar. I focused my attention on the sensations of the steam on my body. I found it incredibly gentle, potent, grounding and relaxing all at once. As if the steam was wrapping itself around me, soothing my nervous system. I felt like in a deep trance of peace by the end of it. Afterwards I sat there with my eyes closed, sensing my womb area, and also delighting in the smell of the herbs that had filled the room. I am always very centred and slow afterwards, deliciously so.
What has steaming given you and or helped you with?
I have gained an increased womb health. I no longer have had UTI, and the times of thrush have reduced considerably. I also feel more feminine and sensual, which helps becoming more moist during sex.
What is your steam setup like?
I like to set up my steam in front of my altar, to give the practice extra reverence. I meditate beforehand, thank the herbs and set the intention this be for my highest good. I typically stand for the first half and then kneel the second half. Afterwards I like to place my hands and then later my feet and after that also my neck and shoulders over the steam. In the end I sit or lay down and simply focus on sensing my body. I don't use any specific tools, just a cooking pot and a towel. I like the simplicity of that, not having bought another material, rather re-using what I already have. I usually keep the pot in the room the whole day after a steam, and only in the evening will I empty the pot in the garden somewhere. I choose a different place each time, and when I pour out the herbs I thank mother earth for all her creations. The cycle feels complete then.
Here's my altar. the pot just sits underneath and slightly in front of it.
